powder skiing in canada

The old colourful and characterful town of Banff is the centre of some of the greatest skiing in Canada. Most experts agree that the real skiing in Canada is in the Rockies, in Western Canada, the home of the Calgary Winter Olympics.

Our flight to Calgary crosses some of the most dramatic scenery in the world. The route is generally via Iceland, right across Greenland with its extraordinarily beautiful glacial and mountainous terrain. We enter Canada via Baffin Island and the North West Territories. It is exciting to notice the tiny coastal settlements in this extraordinary wilderness.

We have accommodation in Banff and Canmore and right on the slopes at Sunshine, which is comfortable, appropriate and with the quite excellent food for which the Canadians are renowned. But it is the skiing for which the Rockies are famous and Banff is blessed with three great resorts, all of which can be enjoyed on the same lift pass, although our map shows but a fraction of the ski area and lifts.
