The 3 Valleys of Courchevel, Méribel,
Les Menuires and Val Thorens together comprise the largest ski area
in the world with a mind-boggling 198 ski lifts. The Valley of Courchevel takes in the 4 villages of Le Praz (or Courchevel 1300), Courchevel 1550, 1650 and 1850, which as well as being the names of the villages, is the statement of their height in metres. The central valley of Méribel is the one so often featured in the “Love France” posters, and is also a great ski area in its own right. The third valley contains the purpose built resort of Les Menuires and at the top of the valley, the newest of the 4 resorts - Val Thorens. Situated at 7,544ft Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in France and because it is situated on 2 glaciers, provides skiing all the year round. In winter the lower slopes are extremely good for beginners with guaranteed good snow. |
