Many French skiers claim that Serre Chevalier offers the most interesting and varied skiing in France, and once one has skied there it would be difficult to argue with their convictions! The mountain of Serre Chevalier lies only 2 miles from Briançon - the highest town in Europe.

Briançon is an old walled town standing fortressed and in many ways unchanged from the 17th century.

The ski area lies to one side of a wide open valley leading to the Col du Lautaret and comprises 4 main villages: Saint Chaffrey, Chantemerle, Villeneuve La Salle, and Le Bez, and the town of Briançon.

From these villages it is possible to ski vast nursery areas on two separate levels (accessible by cable car or direct from the road), long gentle wooded runs, mogul runs, powder snow runs, cross country runs and, for a few, the black Olympic run! All in all these combine to persuade one that the proud French claim may well be correct.
